Throughout the past couple of years, Marvel has released many quality projects. Many TV shows and movies have been extremely successful and controversial over whether or not they were good movies. There are many different opinions out there, many of which are wrong and many of which are right, so let’s take a look at some of them.
A student by the name of Jaxson Bigler, senior, says that, “Across the Spider-Verse and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 are the most peak movies of these past couple of years.” Many people would have to agree with him, as these movies did really well and had possibly the best storylines out of the recent Marvel films. Spider-man has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and made an estimated $663 million at the worldwide box office, while Guardians has an 82% Rotten Tomatoes and made $845.5 million. This shows the public really enjoyed these films.
Across the Spider-Verse and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 are the most peak movies of these past couple of years.
Weber High has many varying opinions on which Marvel movies are good and which are bad. A survey sent out showed that Weber High School agrees with Bigler and Rotten Tomatoes as they think that the best recent Marvel movie was Spider-man: No Way Home, with Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 in a close second place. On the other hand, students unanimously agreed that Eternals was pretty much the absolute worst movie that Marvel has ever put out.
Another student, Grant Wolthuis, senior, says that, “I really liked Eternals because of the spicy scenes it had.” This opinion was not really supported by many others, as the majority of Weber High students hated the Eternals. Wolthuis also stated that, “I didn’t really like Captain Marvel because Captain Marvel is a woman and I am afraid of women.” Most would have to agree with Wolthuis, but the movie still did numbers, earning an estimated $426.8 million dollars in both the United States and Canada.
In addition to the movies they released these past couple of years, Marvel has also released an abundance of TV shows, some of which were wanted and some of which should have been kept to themselves. Bigler says that, “Loki is the best TV show, I am hyped for the second season. Moon Knight is my second, and the rest are ‘mid’ or ‘not peak’.”
Wolthuis has an opinion very different from that of Bigler. Wolthuis says, “I really liked She-Hulk because I loved the part with Megan Thee Stallion.” The show cost around $25 million per episode and was a major flop. The Weber High students that were surveyed revealed that the majority favors Loki as the best Marvel TV show made, with She Hulk at the bottom.
Weber High not only has many different opinions on which movies are the best, but also which characters and actors are the best. The student survey revealed a close race between Spider-man and Captain America, with Spiderman winning by one vote, and Iron Man in 3rd place.
Another student by the name of Ben Peterson, senior, said that, “My favorite actor was Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther. From the first Black Panther movie, I loved the character.” The loss of Boseman was probably one of if the most devastating deaths we have ever seen in Marvel history. Wolthuis stated that, “My favorite Marvel actor was Ezra Miller, I loved him as the Flash.” Wolthuis must be a little bit confused as to what a Marvel character is, but that’s okay because it is surely a unique opinion.
In conclusion, Marvel has put out many projects in the past couple of years, some of which were beloved by fans and did amazing, while most projects failed because they sucked. This shows Marvel that just because they release a movie doesn’t mean that fans will watch and support them just for it being Marvel anymore.
