Immigration Attorney Responds to President Trump’s Latest Immigration Policy Changes

As President Donald Trump enacts a series of executive orders on his first day in office, many individuals are reaching out to Carlos Trujillo, a local immigration attorney, with concerns about their future in the U.S. The orders, particularly those targeting birthright citizenship, have raised significant anxiety among immigrants and their families.

Concerns Over Birthright Citizenship

Trujillo, who has been practicing immigration law for many years, reassured his clients that the effects of Trump’s orders will not be felt immediately. According to Trujillo, while Trump’s promise to end birthright citizenship has generated considerable worry, it is unlikely to materialize in the short term due to the complexities of the legal process.

“These changes are not going to happen with a simple stroke of the pen,” Trujillo explained. “It’s crucial for everyone to understand that this will take time, and people should not panic just yet.”

The proposed end to birthright citizenship—which the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution grants to anyone born on U.S. soil, regardless of the immigration status of their parents—has been a contentious issue. Trujillo expressed concern that attempting to end this practice would be a direct challenge to the Constitution. He also warned that the move could lead to unintended consequences, potentially creating situations where children could be sent to countries where they have no legal right to enter or claim citizenship.

National Emergency Declaration

In addition to the birthright citizenship issue, President Trump has indicated he will declare a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border. Trujillo voiced strong concerns about the potential humanitarian consequences of such a declaration.

“These individuals deserve the protections that our laws offer,” Trujillo stated, emphasizing the importance of upholding the rights of those seeking asylum and refuge.

A Call for Patience and Legal Process

Trujillo reminded his clients that, despite the boldness of these executive orders, any significant change will go through a legal process, and there are still numerous safeguards in place within the U.S. government. He emphasized the rule of law, checks and balances, and Congress’s role in creating policies that affect immigration.

“While we must remain vigilant, it’s important to understand that the Constitution, the rule of law, and the legal process are there to protect everyone,” Trujillo concluded. For now, he urges his clients to stay informed, remain calm, and trust the process .
