SALT LAKE CITY — Two state agents sustained injuries Monday afternoon after a suspect in a stolen vehicle rammed into their cars in an attempt to escape arrest.
The Utah Highway Patrol reported that around 2 p.m., agents with the State Bureau of Investigation received a tip about a stolen vehicle located near 1700 South and State Street in downtown Salt Lake City. The stolen vehicle was eventually found parked behind an apartment complex.
As the agents moved in to make an arrest, they attempted to block the stolen truck using their own vehicles. One agent exited their car to confront the driver, while the other remained inside a separate vehicle.
Suddenly, the suspect drove the stolen truck forward, striking the first agent’s vehicle and knocking the agent to the ground. The suspect continued pushing the vehicle in an effort to flee the scene, ultimately colliding head-on with the second agent’s car.
Despite significant damage to the front of the second vehicle, it managed to stop the suspect’s truck from escaping.
The suspect was apprehended without further incident. Authorities said the first agent only suffered minor contact during the confrontation, while the second agent was transported to a hospital for evaluation as a precaution. The suspect was also taken to be assessed for possible injuries.
Officials have not yet announced what charges the suspect may face, or whether there were any additional warrants involved in the case. The investigation remains ongoing.
