Utah Resident Dies in Early-Morning Crash in Nevada

A fatal car accident early Monday morning in Nevada claimed the life of a Utah man, according to the Nevada Department of Public Safety.

The victim, 38-year-old Ricardo Espinoza from North Salt Lake, was driving a green Toyota SUV westbound on Interstate 80 when the crash occurred around 5 a.m. MST in Pershing County, near mile marker 64.

According to officials, the vehicle veered off the highway, crossing into the center median. Espinoza attempted to correct by steering right, but the SUV crossed both westbound lanes and ultimately rolled over, coming to rest on the shoulder of the highway.

Espinoza, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, suffered fatal injuries. This marks the third fatality on Nevada roads in the region this year, Nevada DPS reported.

The incident is under investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit. Authorities are asking anyone with information or witnesses to the crash to contact the NHP Elko Office at (775) 753-1111 or email ncemirt@dps.state.nv.us.
