Parolee Arrested on Drug and Trespassing Charges in Salt Lake City

A 38-year-old man was arrested on Sunday in Salt Lake City after being found in a restricted area near 400 South 500 West, facing charges related to drug possession, trespassing, and burglary tools.

Michael Martinez was discovered inside a fenced-in property where a hole had been cut to grant unauthorized access. According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, Martinez was on parole at the time of his arrest. A search warrant, authorized by Adult Probation & Parole, led officers to uncover a range of illegal substances and tools associated with criminal activity.

Arrest documents detail that officers found Martinez in possession of a brown substance, which tested positive for heroin, along with a blue M30 fentanyl pill on a piece of aluminum foil. In his right sock, police found a plastic bag with a green substance that tested positive for THC. Martinez’s backpack also contained a variety of other items, including a shaved Hyundai key, hypodermic needles, a glass pipe with crystal-like residue, and a broken spoon containing heroin.

Additionally, officers discovered a pill bottle containing Gabapentin without a prescription and two suboxone pills inside the backpack.

Martinez now faces multiple charges, including:

  • Two counts of possession of controlled substances, a third-degree felony
  • Five counts of possession or use of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor
  • Possession or manufacture of burglary tools, a class B misdemeanor
  • Criminal trespass with intent to cause harm, a class B misdemeanor
  • Three counts of possession or use of controlled substances, a class B misdemeanor

Martinez’s bail has been set at $10,000, although as of Monday morning, he was not listed as an inmate at the jail or prison .
