Kiersten Barker (Dance)
When asked the question, Kiersten Barker didn’t respond with an elaborate scheme to win in this battle of subjects. Instead, she sent a link to the dance fighting scene from “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” which shows the character Ruby Roundhouse completely destroying 3 guards in a fight using graceful martial arts. As the dance sterling scholar, Barker is probably an expert in dance fighting, so here’s a word of advice to all “battle of the subjects” contestants. If Barker approaches and you happen to be guarding something, flee the scene immediately!
Bennett Harkness (Instrumental Music)
Bennett Harkness claims that he is the most like Schroeder from Charlie Brown. This could be attributed to the fact that they are both piano prodigies. Maybe he has an aversion to girls named Lucy as well? Perhaps he keeps marble busts of composers in his car. Whatever it is, this lovable Charlie Brown Character is lucky to be compared to Harkness. He’s awesome.
Sarah Dye (World Languages)
“I relate to Mulan the most! She’s a courageous young woman with an ambitious drive. She lives a life of determination and isn’t afraid to be who she is. Mulan is proud of her identity and chooses to stand up for what’s right. I strive to have the same qualities that Mulan has. Kind of like Mulan, I have Chinese ancestry and live by values that I hope will make my family proud.” Pausing, Dye laughs “[that was] me indirectly trying to say that she’s like me because we’re both Asian.”
KC Anderson (Family and Consumer Science)
“My humble brag about FACS is that I make a lot of my own clothes, and I organized my own fashion show. It had 15 handmade looks and it’s something I’m super proud of.” Wow. Catch KC on the cover of vogue in 20 years – I wouldn’t be surprised.
Harley Layman (Skilled & Technical Sciences Education)
When asked about her category, Harley responded that she has been a part of every CTE class offered at Weber! This is quite a feat considering there are eight. Harley has got to be one of the most widely skilled people at our school with that big of an education investment.
Cooper Bullock (Social Science)
Cooper Bullock has a domination mindset when it comes to the fight. He said “if I were in a massive battle with all the other sterling scholars, I would likely devise a plan (with my knowledge of government and social science) to politically maneuver around my opponents and imprison all of them. I would frame, discredit, and utilize propaganda to get the public on my side that the other sterling scholars are all criminals. Once the public is on my side, it’s only a matter of time before I would exile all the sterling scholars (now criminals) to prison to rot for the rest of their lives. The public wouldn’t know any better and any protests, uprisings, or revolutions would all be brutally suppressed by the nation I know rule with an Iron Fist.”
Indiana Plant (English)
Indiana Plant ploys “[to win] I would write romance novels… so juicy that the other sterling scholars would have to stop everything just to read the next page.” This is valid considering that she has already written four novels! To make sure even more people would be absorbed in her work, she could write the books in another language. Not only is she an English scholar, but she also speaks fluent Spanish!
Lenox Law (Business and Marketing)
Lenox Law would win by ‘‘Marketing the battle and just taking the money. Money is the way to win!” He does have a point. Based on the popularity of Fortnite, it’s visible that marketing war makes a lot of dough. Plus, if the battle markets well, he can start selling gambling stocks. While everyone else is fighting it out for survival, he’ll be rolling in big bucks, just like the capitol from the Hunger Games. And, in case someone does attack him, he has his bull (market) to protect him.
Kate Monson (Speech/Theater Arts/Forensics)
Kate Monson not only is an amazing actress, but she is involved in helping those around her too. She expressed that her “biggest humblebrag… is probably my 400+ hours of service for theater.” This equates to almost 2 and a half weeks of constant service, 24/7. Way to be a good person, Monson!
Andrew White (Vocal Performance)
Andrew White hit the nail on the head when he compared himself to Benji from Pitch Perfect, explaining “We’re both nerds and can be a little bit goofy at times. However, once you get to know us, we are fun people to be around. Plus, he’s such an incredible singer, and I strive to achieve that level of excellence as both a solo performer and as a group performer.”
Christian Rogers (Computer and Information Technology)
“If I were in a massive battle with all of the sterling scholars, I would use my subject of computer science to win by coming prepped with a computerized monstrosity to fight in the battle for me. Then [I would] just sit back and watch it play out. The only other members of the fight I’d be worried about are Science and CTE, since they have some options, but luckily for me most of their tech relies on programming, which is hackable.” Insert evil laugh here, I guess!
Alyse Radle (Science)
“If I were in a battle with the sterling scholars, I would use science to create a lethal virus and infect all of the other sterling scholars, inhibiting their abilities to fight me physically and mentally. Then, I would give myself immunity so I would be the only survivor.” Is that illegal biowarfare? Probably. But, as they say, everything’s fair in love and Sterling Scholar war.
Kaden Fletcher (Mathematics)
Kaden Fletcher is the best person to be friends with when it comes to math trouble! He mentioned “My first class I took at Weber was AB Calc when I was a sophomore. I passed the AP test with a 4, and passed BC Calc the next year with a 5! This year, I’m taking AP Stats and reviewing AB and BC topics in a Math Lab Class. I’ve been two years ahead of the rest of my class in this subject, so this year, people have been asking me for help whenever they get stuck.” Good friends will suffer through math together, great friends like Fletcher help everybody out!
Kathryn Cooley (Visual Arts)
Kathryn Cooley decided, “If I was in a massive battle with all of the sterling scholars, I would use my subject, visual arts, to hide myself in a secluded area to live peacefully until the last of them all were dead. Then I would try to make peace with the remaining people. If that didn’t work… I would use my sculpture tools and art supplies to attempt to protect myself, but I’ll probably die in the end anyways.” But hey, Peeta won the Hunger Games with frosting design; anything’s possible!
