OGDEN, Utah — A 37-year-old woman is facing serious charges after allegedly shooting and killing another woman in Ogden earlier this month.
Ana Maria Zaragoza, 37, has been formally charged with murder, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, and two counts of obstruction of justice—each a felony.
The incident occurred on the evening of April 2, when the Ogden City Police responded to reports of a woman lying on the roadway near 400 E and 800 N just after 9 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim with a gunshot wound to her chest. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the woman succumbed to her injuries.
Investigators later spoke with witnesses, who provided crucial details about the events leading up to the shooting. According to their statements, Zaragoza and the victim had been engaged in a heated argument inside a nearby apartment. Shortly after, both women were seen leaving the apartment, and witnesses reported hearing a gunshot. A silver Nissan Altima, later identified as belonging to Zaragoza, was seen fleeing the scene.
Zaragoza was arrested on April 13 by the Utah Highway Patrol for speeding at over 100 mph. During the arrest, she faced additional charges including possession of a weapon, intent to distribute a controlled substance, and driving without a valid license.
Following her arrest, investigators linked her to the shooting and brought her in for questioning. During her interview, Zaragoza allegedly confessed to shooting the victim after the woman had threatened her. She also reportedly admitted to discarding the weapon and her phone, and mentioned that she had booked a flight to Mexico from Los Angeles International Airport.
Zaragoza is currently held at the Davis County Jail under the custody of the Utah Highway Patrol.
