Former Utah Congresswoman Mia Love has passed away, her family confirmed on Sunday, March 23.
A statement shared on Love’s Twitter/X account described her peaceful passing at home, surrounded by loved ones. “In the midst of joyful recollections and a celebration of her life, Mia quietly departed this world, her spirit soaring as her words and vision always did,” the family wrote. They also expressed appreciation for the outpouring of condolences and support.
Earlier this year, her family revealed that Love’s battle with brain cancer had reached a point where treatments were no longer effective. Plans for a public memorial to honor her life and legacy will be announced soon.
Love made history as the first Black Republican woman elected to the U.S. Congress, representing Utah’s 4th Congressional District from 2015 to 2019.
Utah leaders, including Governor Spencer Cox and Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson, paid tribute to Love’s contributions. Gov. Cox praised her as “a trailblazer and visionary leader” who embodied courage and the American dream. Henderson, a close friend, expressed heartbreak over Love’s passing, calling her “a fearless leader and woman of deep conviction.”
Senator Mike Lee also extended his condolences, asking the public to keep Love’s family in their prayers while remembering her as a dedicated congresswoman, wife, mother, and patriot.
Love’s impact on Utah and beyond remains profound, and she will be deeply missed .
