TOOELE COUNTY, Utah – A tragic accident on Interstate 80 left one person dead and another hospitalized after a pickup truck lost control and veered off the roadway into a marshy area Wednesday evening, authorities reported.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP), the crash happened shortly after 6 p.m. near mile marker 95. The truck, a gray Ford F-250, began to fishtail on the wet road before leaving the right shoulder and coming to a stop in approximately one foot of water.
The driver, a man whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, identified as his wife, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Officials stated that rain had made the roads slick at the time of the crash, but the exact cause of the vehicle losing control is still under investigation.
Authorities are working to determine whether additional factors—such as speed, mechanical issues, or other environmental conditions—played a role in the accident.
No further details about the victims have been disclosed, and the investigation remains ongoing .
