SALT LAKE CITY – Cade Cunningham put on a stellar performance Monday night, racking up 29 points, nine assists, and four steals to lead the Detroit Pistons to a 134-106 victory over the Utah Jazz. The win marks Detroit’s 10th victory in 11 games, a feat the team hasn’t achieved since the 2007-08 season.
Turnovers Cost the Jazz
The Jazz struggled with ball control, committing 27 turnovers, which played a key role in their defeat. Their nine-game homestand wrapped up with a disappointing 3-6 record.
“We were on our heels all night, and Detroit took advantage,” said Jazz head coach Will Hardy. “Eighteen turnovers in one half, 11 in the first quarter alone—it’s tough to win when we don’t take care of the ball.”
Filipowski Shines Despite Loss
With Lauri Markkanen, John Collins, and Jordan Clarkson sidelined, Kyle Filipowski made the most of his opportunity, delivering a career-high 25 points along with eight rebounds.
“Regardless of who’s in the lineup, my focus is to work hard,” Filipowski said. “The game plan might shift, but my mentality stays the same.”
Collin Sexton also contributed 16 points and three steals, but Utah couldn’t keep pace with Detroit’s relentless offense.
Detroit’s Offense Fires on All Cylinders
The Pistons took control early, closing the first quarter with a 21-6 run to take a 36-22 lead. They scored at least 31 points in every quarter, shooting an impressive 55.4% from the field compared to Utah’s 42.7%.
Ausar Thompson was perfect from the field (7-for-7), finishing with 17 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Jalen Duren also had a strong outing, going 5-for-5 with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Cunningham led the charge early, scoring 17 points by halftime, helping the Pistons build a 67-47 advantage. A 14-2 fourth-quarter run extended their lead to 29 points, sealing the dominant victory.
Looking Ahead
With the loss, Utah falls to 3-7 in its last 10 games. The Jazz now embark on a five-game road trip, beginning with a matchup against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday.
“We need to focus on the details, especially on defense,” Hardy said. “This team will stick together and keep working hard.”
Walker Kessler echoed that sentiment, saying, “Even in tough stretches, our mindset is to improve. If we keep that attitude, it’ll pay off in the long run.
