Northern Utah Man Arrested for Allegedly Distributing Child Sexual Abuse Material

A 54-year-old man from northern Utah was taken into custody on Monday, January 27, after he was accused of sending child sex abuse material—commonly referred to as child pornography—through the mobile app Kik. Authorities arrested Ned Brady Hansen on eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, with each count classified as a second-degree felony.

The investigation into Hansen’s alleged actions began when Kik, the messaging platform, alerted the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) in November 2024 about explicit files being shared via Hansen’s Kik account. This prompted the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force, led by the Utah Attorney General’s Office, to investigate.

How Authorities Tracked Down Hansen

According to the arrest documents, Hansen’s Kik account was connected to an email linked to a home construction and renovation business. Investigators traced the email address back to Hansen, with a search warrant revealing his name and phone number. Further investigation also uncovered that the IP address associated with the explicit material was linked to Hansen’s online accounts, including his Kik account.

On January 27, detectives from the Brigham City Police Department executed a search warrant at Hansen’s residence in Box Elder County. He was found alone in the home at the time of his arrest and was subsequently taken to Box Elder County Jail.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings

Hansen faces eight felony charges related to the distribution of child sexual abuse material. At this stage, the charges remain allegations, and all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the case, and additional details may emerge as the legal process unfolds.
