Layton Elementary School Crossing Guard Fatally Struck by Vehicle

A devastating incident unfolded on Tuesday morning in Layton, Utah, when 67-year-old Steven Winn, a dedicated crossing guard, was struck and killed by a vehicle. Winn was performing his duties near Vae View Elementary School, where he had been assisting students as they crossed a busy intersection.

According to the Layton City Police Department, Winn was in the crosswalk, wearing a reflective vest and holding a stop sign when he was hit by a northbound car at the intersection of 1600 North and Main Street. The accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. on January 28.

A police officer, who happened to witness part of the collision, immediately administered CPR to Winn until emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene. The driver of the vehicle involved stayed at the location and has been cooperating with authorities.
