16-Year-Old Arrested for Arson Following Ogden Apartment Fire

A 16-year-old suspect has been arrested following a large fire at an apartment building in Ogden, Utah, which occurred over the weekend. Authorities announced the arrest on Tuesday evening, confirming the teenager has been charged with arson, causing a catastrophe, and criminal mischief, all of which are second-degree felonies.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Jake Sube, Chief of the Ogden City Police Department, revealed that the fire was deliberately set. Investigators determined the cause after a thorough examination conducted by multiple agencies, including the Ogden Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Weber County Attorney’s Office.

“We ask for the community’s continued patience as we move forward with the investigation,” Chief Sube stated. He also reassured the public that authorities do not believe there are any additional suspects involved. “The suspect acted alone,” he confirmed.

While the identity of the juvenile suspect remains undisclosed due to privacy laws, Sube shared that the teen is not a resident of Ogden but is enrolled in a local school.
