Ohio – Braga Fresh, a fresh vegetables and salad company, has issued a voluntary advisory for a specific lot of washed and ready-to-eat broccoli florets sold at Walmart stores across 20 states.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports that the advisory applies to 12 oz. bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets. The precautionary measure is due to the potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
The possible contamination was identified during routine random sampling by Texas Health & Human Services at a Walmart store in Texas. One sample from the lot tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

- Product Affected: 12 oz. bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets from a single production lot.
- Status: The affected product is past its “best if used by” date and is no longer in stores. However, consumers may have frozen the product for later use.

Listeria Risks and Symptoms
The FDA warns that Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and potentially fatal infections in young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms for healthy individuals may include:
- High fever
- Severe headache
- Stiffness
- Nausea
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
Pregnant women should be especially cautious, as Listeria infections can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths.
