A dramatic rescue took place at Glasmann Pond in Ogden, Utah, on Monday, January 27, after a 14-year-old boy fell through the ice while ice fishing. He spent nearly two hours in the frigid water before being pulled to safety.
Lt. John Cox of the Ogden Police Department shared his concern for the teenager’s family. “Our hearts go out to them, and we just hope for the best,” he told ABC4. After being rescued, the boy was rushed to the hospital, where lifesaving efforts continued. The teenager’s current condition remains unclear.
Officials warned the public about the dangers posed by fluctuating temperatures in the winter months. “It doesn’t take much in conditions like this to get hypothermic and suffer injuries,” Lt. Cox cautioned. “People need to be extremely careful when near ice.”
Initial Incident: A Search for the Missing Teen
The frightening incident unfolded around 4:30 p.m. when two teenagers were ice fishing at Glasmann Pond. According to Mike McBride from Ogden City, the ice gave way beneath their feet, plunging them into the icy water.

While the older teen, aged 15, was able to escape the water and make it to the shore, the 14-year-old did not resurface. The pond, known for its icy and cold conditions, is about six to ten feet deep, adding to the urgency of the rescue.
Rescue teams, including dive teams from the Weber Fire District, Ogden City Fire, and Riverdale Fire, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Despite their efforts, the teenager could not be located initially. The Weber County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team later joined the search.
The 15-year-old was treated for minor hypothermia and taken to the hospital, while the search continued for the 14-year-old. The incident has left the community shaken, with emergency responders stressing the importance of caution near frozen bodies of water during unpredictable weather.
