Last Chance to Claim Up to $7,500 from $6.8M Data Breach Settlement
Patients affected by a major data breach at Tampa General Hospital have just 24 hours left to file a claim for a share of the $6.8 million settlement. Those eligible could receive compensation ranging from $125 to $7,500, depending on the extent of their losses.
Background on the Data Breach
In May 2023, Tampa General Hospital discovered that a data breach had compromised the personal information of approximately 2.1 million patients. The exposed data included Social Security numbers, health insurance details, medical record numbers, and treatment history.
A class action lawsuit accused the hospital of failing to safeguard sensitive patient information, though the hospital has not admitted any wrongdoing. To resolve the claims, Tampa General Hospital agreed to a multi-million-dollar settlement.
Who Can File a Claim?
To be eligible for compensation, individuals must have received a formal notification from Florida Health Science Center confirming that their personal information may have been exposed in the breach.
The deadline to submit a claim is January 12, 2025. Claims can be filed online through the settlement website.

- Those who miss the January 12 deadline will forfeit their right to receive any compensation and will not be able to sue the hospital over the breach in the future.
- A final approval hearing is set for February 3, 2025 to determine the full implementation of the settlement.
Other Settlement Opportunities
In addition to the Tampa General Hospital case, Americans who received telemarketing calls or messages from an online pharmacy may also be eligible for compensation, with potential payouts between $600 and $1,500.
