“Hurry! Final Opportunity to Get Up to $7,500 from Tampa General Hospital Data Breach

Hospital patients have just 24 hours left to claim compensation from a multi-million-dollar payout linked to a data breach at Tampa General Hospital. The breach, which affected the personal information of around 2.1 million individuals, led to a class-action lawsuit. The hospital has agreed to pay $6.8 million to resolve the claims, though it has not admitted any wrongdoing.

The breach, discovered around May 31, 2023, exposed sensitive patient data, including health insurance details, Social Security numbers, medical record numbers, and treatment information. Eligible individuals who received a notice from the Florida Health Science Center about the breach must submit their claims by January 12, 2025, to be considered for compensation.

Different compensation amounts are available based on the impact of the breach:

  • Those who didn’t experience losses but had their information compromised can claim a flat $125.
  • Those who incurred certain documented losses, such as travel expenses or bank fees, can receive up to $1,500.
  • Individuals who experienced significant losses, such as identity theft or fraudulent charges, can claim up to $7,500, provided they present evidence of the damages.

Claimants can also receive compensation for up to four hours of lost time at a rate of $25 per hour (up to $100). Additionally, all affected individuals are entitled to one year of free three-bureau credit monitoring services.

To ensure eligibility for the settlement, individuals must submit their claims by January 12, 2025. Failure to do so may affect their legal rights.

Anyone who did not wish to be part of the settlement had until December 28, 2024, to opt-out, preserving their right to pursue legal action against the hospital independently.

A final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for February 3, 2025. Meanwhile, Americans who received telemarketing messages from an online pharmacy may be eligible for compensation ranging between $600 and $1,500.
