Former Child Star Rory Sykes Dies in California Wildfires at 32

California  – Rory Callum Sykes, a former child actor from the UK, tragically died in the recent California wildfires at the age of 32. Sykes, who starred in the Australian TV series Kiddy Kapers, was living at his family’s Malibu home when the flames consumed the area.

His mother, Shelley Sykes, shared the heartbreaking news on social media, writing, “It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of my beautiful son @Rorysykes to the Malibu fires yesterday.”

Sykes, known more recently as a video game streamer, had been living in Sydney, Australia, before relocating to the United States. Born blind with cerebral palsy, Sykes had undergone multiple surgeries and therapies to restore his sight and improve his mobility. His mother recalled his resilience, noting that despite his physical challenges, he traveled the world with her, including trips to Africa and Antarctica.

On the day the fires broke out, Sykes was staying in a cottage on his family’s Malibu estate. Shelley shared that, due to water supply issues, she couldn’t put out the flames on his roof, even as brave firefighters battled the blaze. “Even the 50 brave firefighters had no water all day,” she wrote, expressing her devastation over his loss.

The fires, which began in Los Angeles on January 7, have claimed at least 11 lives, with more deaths expected as the fires continue to rage. The Pacific Palisades and Eaton fires are among the most destructive in California’s history.

Actor Jennifer Garner, also affected by the fires, shared her grief, revealing she had lost a friend in the disaster. While helping distribute food to evacuees, she expressed her sorrow, saying, “My heart bleeds for my friends,” as she thought of the thousands of families who lost their homes.
