South Jordan Police Identify 17-Year-Old Shot and Killed in Friday Shootout
South Jordan – South Jordan Police confirmed Tuesday that the person fatally shot by officers during a shootout on Friday night was a 17-year-old boy, whose identity has not yet been released.
The incident began when officers responded to reports of a vehicle theft. According to police, the suspect inside the stolen vehicle opened fire on the officers. In response, the officers returned fire while the suspect fled on foot.
Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the search for the suspect, who was ultimately found in a nearby backyard. The teenager was taken into custody and transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

South Jordan police stated that investigators worked throughout the weekend to identify the teenager and notify his family. The investigation is ongoing, and once completed, it will be handed over to the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office for further review.
The shooting took place after 10 p.m. on Friday near 9400 South and 4600 West. This incident marked the fourth fatal police shooting in Utah within a span of five days.
