HURRICANE, Utah — A trespassing charge filed against Hurricane Fire Chief Joe Decker has been dismissed following his formal apology and a charitable contribution, according to recent court filings.
Decker had been charged with a class B misdemeanor for criminal trespass, stemming from an incident in which he allegedly entered the Kanab City Airport Terminal using an access code from his prior employment with the city. Reports indicated that Decker attempted to view or access a current employee’s computer or email system during the unauthorized entry.

However, at the start of the month, a judge in Kane County ruled to drop the charge after Decker expressed remorse through a written statement and made a financial donation to the Kane County Children’s Justice Center. The amount of the donation was not made public.
In his letter, Decker acknowledged his mistake and emphasized that he had not intended to break any rules or cause harm. He said he entered the terminal in an effort to assist a terminally ill friend and claimed a current city employee had asked for his help. Despite his intentions, Decker admitted that he should have contacted the appropriate personnel before accessing the facility.
“This was an oversight on my part,” Decker wrote, “and not a deliberate disregard for rules or disrespect to the City.”
With the matter now resolved, officials have indicated no further legal action will be taken .
