SALT LAKE CITY — On Sunday, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took the stage at the University of Utah as part of Sanders’ nationwide “Fighting Oligarchy” tour. The event, titled Fighting Oligarchy: Where We Go From Here with Bernie Sanders in Salt Lake City, was held at the Jon M. Huntsman Center, located at 1875 E. South Campus Drive.
The tour is focused on initiating in-depth discussions across the country about how to confront powerful corporate interests and oligarchs who hold significant influence over the nation’s policies, as outlined on the Bernie Sanders website.
The event began with doors opening at 3:30 p.m., followed by the speaking program at 6 p.m. A series of musical performances set the stage for the speeches, with Talia Keys performing at 4:40 p.m. and the band I DON’T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME taking the stage at 5:15 p.m.
Attendees had access to free parking at the University of Utah campus over the weekend, with convenient UTA bus and TRAX stops located just outside the arena. ADA parking was available right by the main entrance, with Lot 14 reserved for those needing special accommodations. Event organizers also ensured ADA attendees could skip general admission lines, providing access through Doors 1, 2, and 3. Volunteers and staff were on hand to direct guests, and additional ADA seating was available on the upper rim of the venue.
The event had specific restrictions: no bags, signs, or firearms were allowed. RSVPs were required for entry, and those wishing to support the tour financially could make donations via the provided link.
Following the Salt Lake City stop, the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour will continue its journey with events in Nampa, Idaho, on April 14, Bakersfield and Folsom, California, on April 15, and Missoula, Montana, on April 16.
