SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) provided new details regarding a barricade situation that unfolded on Sunday, April 13, resulting in the arrest of a 64-year-old man.
According to officials, the incident began around 8:15 a.m. when police were called to an apartment complex near 2333 West North Temple. Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect had allegedly assaulted another resident and had been recently evicted from the building. After the assault, the suspect barricaded himself inside his former apartment unit and refused to communicate with law enforcement.
Following hours of attempted communication, the police obtained a warrant to enter the apartment. By 1:15 p.m., officers used a keycard to gain entry, taking the suspect into custody without further incident.
The name of the suspect has not yet been released. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail.
The victim, who sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, was treated at the scene. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported. Any temporary road closures in the area have now been lifted.
While the charges against the suspect are currently under investigation, all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
In the earlier stages of the incident, the Salt Lake City Police Department’s SWAT team responded, with negotiators engaging with the suspect. After multiple attempts, the suspect eventually surrendered.
This case remains under investigation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
