Woman’s Felonious Assault Case Transferred to Grand Jury in Allen County
A felonious assault case involving Kayla Jones, 35, was recently transferred from Lima Municipal Court to the Allen County Common Pleas Court, where a grand jury will review the charges.
The incident, outlined in court documents by Lima Police Detective Matt Boss, occurred on December 13 around 4:30 a.m. Officers responded to 219 N. Shawnee St., where they found a man lying on the sidewalk with injuries including a bloody mouth and abrasions around his abdomen. The man was transported to Lima Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The man reported that he and Jones, his wife, live in Decatur, Indiana, and had traveled to Lima to visit friends. He stated that after dropping Jones off earlier in the evening, he later picked her up along with another man, identified as Dwan Ward.
During the ride, Ward allegedly exited the vehicle, opened the driver’s side door, and attempted to pull the man from the car. The man tried to drive away but claimed Jones put the vehicle in park, enabling Ward to pull him out of the car. While the two men fought, Jones reportedly got into the driver’s seat and ran over her husband before fleeing the scene with Ward in the vehicle.
Jones is currently being held in the Allen County Jail on a $250,000 bond. Ward, who is also in custody, faces a separate theft charge.
