Survivor of Family Tragedy: Teen Shot by Father to Be Discharged from Hospital

West Valley City – A 17-year-old boy who survived a tragic murder-suicide in West Valley City last month is now on the road to recovery and will soon be released from the hospital.

Sha Reh, a student at Granger High School, was critically injured when his father, Dae Reh, shot five family members in their home before taking his own life. The teen, who suffered a severe brain injury, is now in stable condition, according to a recent update shared by his school. A photo posted on social media showed Sha surrounded by teachers at his hospital bedside, and the caption expressed gratitude for his progress, saying he was “recovering well.”

The tragic incident unfolded in mid-December when Dae Reh killed Sha’s mother, brother, and two sisters, leaving the teen as the sole survivor. Police later discovered a handgun near Dae Reh’s body. At the time, authorities said they could not interview Sha about the incident as he was in critical condition, and it remains unclear whether he has been able to speak to police yet.

Granger High School, where Sha is a student, expressed their support with a heartfelt social media post. Teachers who visited Sha during his recovery presented him with a gift, and the post ended with, “We’re so glad to see him doing so well! Lots of Lancer Love for Sha!”

The Reh family had relocated to the U.S. from Myanmar over a decade ago in search of a better life and had recently moved into their new home, where the tragedy occurred.

As Sha Reh continues to recover, the community has rallied around him, offering love and support during this difficult time.
