
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico has released its latest immigration enforcement data, detailing arrests and prosecutions for the week ending March 7, 2025. The efforts were carried out in coordination with the El Paso Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol, Homeland Security Investigations El Paso, and multiple federal, state, and local agencies.
Immigration-Related Charges Filed in New Mexico
Over the course of the week, authorities filed charges against numerous individuals for various immigration offenses:
- 52 individuals faced charges for illegal reentry following deportation.
- 8 individuals were accused of smuggling undocumented immigrants.
- 23 individuals were charged with illegal entry into the United States.

Among the cases prosecuted, authorities underscored several notable incidents:

Hostage-Taking and Harboring Undocumented Individuals:
Isaias David Jose and Tomas Mateo Gaspar were charged with holding undocumented individuals against their will and providing them with unlawful shelter. FBI agents executed a search warrant at a residence in Albuquerque, where 10 undocumented individuals were discovered. One victim was allegedly confined in a locked room and threatened with being handed over to a criminal organization if their family did not pay an $18,000 ransom. -
Firearms Possession by Undocumented Immigrants:
In a separate case, three Mexican nationals—Jose Ruiz-Gamez, Uzziel Carmona-Lopez, and Donaciano Carmona-Lopez—were charged with illegally possessing firearms. The Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo Police Department discovered two firearms during a routine traffic stop, leading to their arrest. -
Human Smuggling Attempt Ends in Pursuit:
Another case involved Roberto Rodrigo Velazquez-Lopez, who allegedly attempted to evade law enforcement at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint. Authorities reported that he was transporting four undocumented individuals, two of whom were concealed in the trunk of the vehicle.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasized that these statistics reflect only cases prosecuted within the District of New Mexico, highlighting ongoing efforts to address immigration-related offenses in the region .
