Utah to Host Filming for ‘Succession’ Creator’s New Movie with Steve Carell

SALT LAKE CITY— A new HBO original film exploring the lives of a group of billionaire friends is set to begin production in Park City, Utah, this month, Warner Bros. Discovery has announced.

The film, written and directed by Jesse Armstrong—the mastermind behind the hit series Succession—marks his debut in the director’s chair. The movie’s title has yet to be revealed, but it will feature an ensemble cast led by Steve Carell as Randall, Jason Schwartzman as Hugo Van Yalk, Cory Michael Smith as Venis, and Ramy Youssef as Jeff.

According to Warner Bros., the storyline will follow the group as they navigate the complexities of wealth and power amid an ongoing international crisis.

Armstrong, who also serves as the film’s executive producer, expressed his excitement about the project.

“I’m curious to see if working alongside so many talented actors and directors on Succession has taught me anything. Let’s hope it has,” Armstrong said.

Armstrong’s work on Succession has earned him multiple Emmy Awards, and HBO executives are eager to collaborate with him again.

“Jesse once again delivers a sharp and timely exploration of power, greed, and ambition,” said Francesca Orsi, HBO’s executive vice president of programming and head of drama series and films. “His transition to directing will only enhance what is already an exceptional story, and we can’t wait to share it with audiences.”

The film’s production team includes several Succession veterans, with executive producers Frank Rich, Lucy Prebble, Jon Brown, Tony Roche, Will Tracy, Mark Mylod, and Jill Footlick joining Armstrong on the project .
