SALT LAKE CITY – The Lone Peak Knights cemented their dynasty by securing their fourth straight state championship on Thursday night, overcoming Copper Hills in a 46-42 victory for the second consecutive year.
Tati Harness played a key role, scoring 13 points, including two clutch free throws with 12 seconds remaining, sealing the win for Lone Peak.
“I wasn’t really nervous,” Harness said. “I practice those a lot, so I felt good about it.”
Copper Hills came out strong, building a 12-point lead in the first half, with Aspen Fraser scoring 10 points. They maintained a six-point advantage at halftime.
However, Lone Peak gradually fought back, fueled by Zuri Nordstrom’s pair of three-pointers and a defensive effort that forced 17 turnovers.
“It’s amazing to win with a new group of players this year,” said Woolston. “We only had a few returners, so a lot of girls stepped up in big ways.”
Head coach Nancy Warner expressed her pride in the team’s perseverance.
“I can’t even put it into words,” Warner said. “I’m just so fortunate to coach such an incredible group of girls. They’re not only talented and hardworking, but they truly care about each other.”
For Copper Hills, Fusi Leger and Skylie Barker each contributed nine points in the tough-fought game.
Lone Peak closes out the season with a 19-7 record, while Copper Hills finishes at 21-6.
