Utah Man Faces New Murder Charge After Human Rib Bone Found in Tooele County
Utah – A man already facing charges for the alleged kidnapping and murder of three people in Salt Lake and Tooele Counties has been linked to a fourth homicide after human remains were discovered in the same area where the earlier victims’ bodies were found.
Cesar Matias Sevilla-Aleman, 27, now faces four counts of aggravated murder and four counts of aggravated kidnapping, according to court documents filed on Thursday, January 2. Sevilla-Aleman, also known by the alias “Taliban,” was previously charged with the killings of Rocio Bustamante-Banuelos, Carlos “Carlitos” Sepulveda, and Zamir “Cumbias” Sanchez in early 2024. New charges now include the kidnapping and murder of Jose “Angel” Castaneda-Lopez.
Bustamante-Banuelos, Sepulveda, and Sanchez had been missing since March 28, 2022. Witnesses indicated that Sepulveda owed Sevilla-Aleman a debt of $2,400, which may have led to their deaths.
In 2023, during a training exercise in Tooele County, cadaver dogs located three sets of human remains near Mercur Trailhead. DNA and fingerprint testing later confirmed the bodies as those of Bustamante-Banuelos, Sepulveda, and Sanchez.

Exactly one year after the discovery of the three bodies, a Utah County detective uncovered additional human remains near Mercur Trailhead. Among the remains was a passport belonging to Jose “Angel” Castaneda-Lopez, who had been missing since April 2022. DNA testing confirmed the remains belonged to Castaneda-Lopez. Police believe he was shot 16 times, and shell casings found at the scene were consistent with those found near the other three victims.
Investigators also found that Sevilla-Aleman had contacted Castaneda-Lopez the day before his disappearance, expressing anger at him for allegedly planning to rob him.
Sevilla-Aleman, who has been in custody since September 2022 for an unrelated non-fatal shooting at a rodeo in Spanish Fork, is now accused of murdering all four individuals. He is currently serving time at the Utah State Correctional Facility.
These charges are allegations, and all arrested individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
