A routine traffic stop in Salt Lake City led to the arrest of a 44-year-old parolee after officers discovered drugs and two loaded firearms—one of which had been reported stolen.
The incident unfolded around 4:40 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, when officers with the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team spotted a Dodge Charger running a stop sign near 700 South and 400 West. Upon stopping the vehicle, police identified the driver as Craig Greene, a parolee with a known criminal history.
During a search of Greene and his car, authorities found suspected fentanyl-laced blue pills, raw marijuana, marijuana resin, and two loaded handguns. A background check revealed that one of the firearms had been reported stolen in Lehi.
Greene was taken into custody and booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on multiple felony charges, including firearm possession by a restricted person, possession of a stolen firearm, and several drug-related offenses.
Citing concerns about public safety and the possibility of flight risk, authorities have ordered Greene to be held without bail.
