Back-to-Back OT Magic: Dylan Guenther Scores Another Game-Winner

Dylan Guenther continues to deliver in clutch moments.

For the second consecutive game, Utah’s top scorer sealed the victory in overtime, netting the game-winning goal with just 33 seconds remaining to give Utah Hockey Club a 3-2 win over Columbus on Thursday night.

Guenther’s decisive goal came just two days after his last-second heroics against Philadelphia. This time, after his initial shot was stopped, he capitalized on the rebound off a setup from goaltender Connor Ingram, marking his 19th goal of the season.

“I noticed they were offside, so when [Ingram] had the puck, I had a feeling he’d take the shot,” Guenther said. “I didn’t really see it at first, but I just kept skating, got it on my stick, and luckily, it bounced back to me. We’ll take it.”

Utah Secures Hard-Fought Victory

Lawson Crouse and Olli Määttä also found the net for Utah (23-22-9), while Ingram stood strong with 20 saves.

“We managed to get over the finish line,” head coach André Tourigny said. “But more importantly, we stayed composed, played with energy, and maintained our pace. I really liked our effort tonight.”

Columbus (26-21-8) suffered its third consecutive loss despite goals from Justin Danforth and Ivan Provorov. Goaltender Elvis Merzlikins recorded 30 saves in the effort.

Danforth put the Blue Jackets ahead 1-0 just under six minutes into the first period, capitalizing on a fortunate bounce off the boards.

Utah responded early in the second period when Crouse one-timed a feed from Josh Doan, tying the game at 1-1 just as a power play expired.

Määttä, who is set to represent Finland at the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off, gave Utah a 2-1 lead at 12:33. His pass, intended for Nick Bjugstad, deflected off a Columbus stick and found the back of the net.

However, Columbus struck back late in the period. Provorov notched his first career short-handed goal, firing a wrist shot from the right circle with just 39 seconds left in regulation, extending his goal streak to three games.

Another Late-Game Winner for Guenther

Guenther once again came through in crunch time, securing the win in dramatic fashion.

“We didn’t play our best, but we found a way to get it done,” Guenther said. “The more you experience these moments, the more comfortable you get.”

Utah will now turn its attention to Saturday’s matchup against Carolina, with puck drop set for 11:00 a.m. Mountain Time.
