Utah Snow Alert: Weekend Storm to Hit Salt Lake City Starting Friday Night

Salt Lake City residents should brace for snow starting Friday night, with snowy conditions expected to persist through Saturday. The National Weather Service has issued a forecast calling for a 60% chance of snow on Saturday, which could bring up to one inch of accumulation in some areas.

Snow showers are likely to begin after 11 p.m. on Friday, with temperatures dropping to around 21°F. Saturday’s daytime high will reach 34°F, but the snow, coupled with calm winds, could make for hazardous driving conditions, especially on roads like I-15 and local streets. Drivers are advised to be prepared with chains or winter tires, particularly if traveling to higher elevations.

Sunday will bring a break in the weather, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures near 34°F. However, temperatures will drop to 16°F overnight, leading to possible icy conditions on walkways and roads. Anyone heading outdoors should dress in layers and take caution on potentially slick surfaces.

Looking into Monday, temperatures will climb slightly, reaching a high of 37°F under clear skies. The dry weather trend is expected to continue through midweek, with sunny conditions and highs around 40°F by Wednesday.

With snow potentially reducing visibility and making roads slippery, local authorities recommend avoiding non-essential travel during the heaviest snow periods and giving yourself extra time for commutes. It’s also wise to check road conditions and make sure your vehicle is stocked with emergency supplies before hitting the road.
