Utah Weather Alert: Dangerous Cold to Impact Salt Lake City and Southwest Wyoming
Utah and southwest Wyoming are bracing for an arctic blast that will bring the coldest temperatures of the season, with dangerously low readings expected through Tuesday morning. The extreme cold presents significant health risks, and authorities are advising residents to take precautions to stay safe.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Salt Lake City warns that temperatures will plummet into the single digits on both Monday and Tuesday mornings, with wind chills plunging to a frigid -10°F in city areas. For higher-elevation valleys like Bryce Canyon and the Bear River Desert, wind chills could be even more severe, ranging from -20°F to -30°F.

To avoid frostbite and hypothermia, the NWS urges people to layer their clothing and minimize outdoor exposure, especially during the coldest parts of the day. Pet owners should take extra care to protect their animals from the freezing temperatures as well.
In Salt Lake City, daytime temperatures will peak at just 24°F on Monday, but it will drop to a biting 8°F overnight. Tuesday should bring a slight reprieve with a high of around 33°F.
As the cold snap takes hold, residents are reminded to check on neighbors, especially the elderly or those with health conditions, and to pack emergency kits if traveling. Keeping up with updates from local authorities will be key to staying informed throughout the cold spell .
