Teen Cheerleader Crushed to Death After Tree Collapses on Mississippi Home
Mississippi – A severe storm in Mississippi led to the tragic death of 18-year-old Tykeria Rogers, a senior and cheerleader at Natchez High School, when a tree toppled onto her home Saturday night. The incident occurred on Westwood Road, where the tree struck the front of the house, fatally injuring Tykeria.
Emergency crews and neighbors rushed to the scene, using chainsaws in a desperate effort to rescue her, according to WLBT. Despite their efforts, Tykeria did not survive. Two other individuals were injured in the incident, but their names and conditions have not been disclosed.
Tyra Johnson, a close friend and fellow cheerleader, spoke to WJTV about Tykeria’s talent and infectious personality. “She was the best at everything—dance, cheer, even her TikToks. You couldn’t help but love her,” Johnson said.
Community Support and Funeral Assistance
To support Tykeria’s family during this devastating time, family friend Jasmine Buchannan established a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses and recovery efforts. Tykeria’s mother, Tequilla Rogers, and her two younger siblings lost their home in the storm and are temporarily staying in a hotel.
“Anything helps, any donation, because she lost everything,” Buchannan said. “The most painful loss, though, is her child. You can replace a house or a car, but not a life.”
The GoFundMe page describes Tykeria as “a vibrant, loving soul whose warmth touched everyone she met.”
Remembering Tykeria
The community has rallied in remembrance of Tykeria, sharing heartfelt messages and photos. Local teacher Larry Hooper posted on Facebook, calling her his “beloved student” and sharing memories of her in cheer gear and graduation attire. He also organized temporary hotel accommodations for the family and encouraged others to offer support.
“Please keep Tykeria’s family, friends, and classmates in your prayers,” Hooper wrote.
Natchez Mayor Dan Gibson also expressed his condolences on Facebook, acknowledging the widespread grief and compassion in the wake of the tragedy. “The sun is now out, but that was not the case just a few hours ago,” the mayor wrote.
Candlelight Vigil Planned
A candlelight vigil to honor Tykeria will be held at Natchez High School on Monday at 5:30 p.m. Mayor Gibson praised the community for their overwhelming support and compassion for Tykeria’s family and friends.
This tragedy has left a lasting impact on the Natchez community, as they come together to mourn the loss of a bright, talented young woman.
