$2.2M Housing Settlement: How to Claim Your Share with Proper Proof
Tenants at Meridian Heights Apartments in Washington D.C. could soon receive compensation from a $2.2 million settlement following a class action lawsuit.
The lawsuit accused Meridian Heights, a rental company, of charging unlawful fees and failing to maintain safe living conditions for tenants. While the company has agreed to settle, it has not admitted to any wrongdoing.
Who Is Eligible?
To qualify for a share of the settlement, tenants must have:
✅ Lived at Meridian Heights Apartments between April 4, 2022, and September 30, 2024
✅ Signed a lease or made a rental payment during that period
✅ Experienced at least one housing code violation, such as rodent infestations, mold issues, or insect problems

What Compensation Is Available?
Eligible class members may receive a combination of:
- Refunds on Rent Paid
- Three Months of Free Rent (For tenants moving in after October 1, 2024)
- Debt Forgiveness for Unpaid Rent (Meridian Heights will cancel $719,000 in outstanding rent)
- Cash Payments for Former Tenants (Those who vacated before December 31, 2024, may receive additional compensation)
Key Settlement Terms
📌 Tenants who moved in after October 1, 2024, can claim three months of free rent through December 31, 2024.
📌 Residents with unpaid rent over $600 (as of October 10, 2024) must have left by December 31, 2024, to qualify.
📌 Those with less than $600 in unpaid rent can remain in the building after December 31, 2024.
How to File a Claim
To apply for a payout, claimants must submit proof of residence at Meridian Heights, such as:
✔ Apartment number and current address
✔ Social Security number and birth date
✔ Copy of lease agreement (if available)
✔ Proof of at least one rental payment to UIP or Novo
📅 Claim Deadline: February 4, 2024
🚨 The exclusion deadline passed on January 6, 2025. If tenants did not opt out, they must file a claim to receive compensation.
What’s Next?
A final settlement hearing is set for March 27, 2025. Once approved, payments will be distributed to eligible claimants.
