Oreo Data Breach Payout: How to Qualify for a $7,000 Settlement Check
Mondelez International, the company behind Oreo cookies, has agreed to a settlement following a class action lawsuit over a cybersecurity breach. Impacted individuals may soon receive payments, with eligible claimants potentially securing up to $7,000.
Background on the Settlement
Mondelez International, along with law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, faced allegations of failing to protect sensitive consumer data during a February 2023 security breach. The lawsuit claimed that the breach exposed personal details such as Social Security numbers, birthdates, addresses, retirement and health information, and other confidential data.
Although neither Mondelez nor Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner admitted wrongdoing, both parties agreed to a $750,000 settlement to resolve the claims.
Who Is Eligible?
Only individuals who received an official notice from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, Mondelez International, or Chicago IVF regarding the data breach are eligible to file a claim. This notification confirmed that their personal information was affected or potentially compromised. Those who did not receive this notice will not be able to participate in the settlement.
How to File a Claim
To submit a claim, eligible individuals must use their unique Class Member ID, which was included in the notification. Claims can be submitted through the settlement website, with a filing deadline set for February 10, 2025. The period for exclusions and objections ended on January 13, and a final approval hearing is scheduled for January 21.

Payment Details
Eligible claimants may receive compensation based on their financial losses due to the data breach:
- Up to $7,000 for documented out-of-pocket expenses, including fraudulent charges, identity theft-related costs, credit monitoring services, and bank fees.
- Up to $125 for lost time, calculated at a rate of $25 per hour for a maximum of five hours.
- Individuals who had their data compromised but did not incur direct expenses will still receive a payout, though the exact amount depends on the total number of claims filed and available settlement funds.
Other Settlements to Watch
Consumers should also be aware of other upcoming settlements. For instance, eligible individuals may receive a portion of a $2.2 million home settlement if they provide two types of proof. Additionally, payments of up to $5,000 are being distributed as part of a physical therapy data breach settlement.
As data breaches become more common, affected consumers should stay informed about settlement opportunities and take action to claim compensation when eligible
