Utah Hiker Discovers Human Remains in Remote Area: Investigation Underway

Human remains in an advanced state of decomposition were discovered near a popular hiking trail in southwestern Utah, prompting an investigation by local authorities.

The remains were found Sunday by a hiker near the Bone Wash Trail and Elephant Arch, situated in Washington City, close to the Arizona border and about 125 miles northwest of Las Vegas. The Washington City Police Department responded to the scene alongside deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed the presence of human remains in various stages of decomposition, suggesting they had been at the location for a significant period of time.

While the identity of the deceased has not been released, authorities have stated the remains are those of a male. At this point, no foul play is suspected, and the case is being treated as an ongoing investigation.

The remains were transported to the medical examiner’s office for further examination. In a statement, police noted that out of respect for the family, no further details regarding the individual would be shared at this time.

The investigation is still underway as authorities await results from the Medical Examiner’s office to help determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the discovery.
