Man Wanted for Hiding Juvenile Arrested After I-15 Chase in Orem

OREM, Utah – A Utah County fugitive was taken into custody following a high-speed pursuit along Interstate 15. Authorities say 40-year-old Elijah Nehemiah Madden, who was wanted for allegedly harboring a runaway juvenile, was arrested after leading deputies on a chase before being stopped using tactical maneuvers.

Madden now faces multiple charges, including parental kidnapping, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, and failure to stop at the command of police, all third-degree felonies. He is also charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

Attempt to Evade Arrest

On Monday, members of the Utah County Fugitive Investigation Team located Madden in a parking lot in Orem. When deputies approached, Madden got into his vehicle and fled, prompting a pursuit.

He entered southbound I-15 from University Parkway, refusing to stop despite law enforcement’s attempts to pull him over. Deputies continued to follow him until they were able to execute a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT maneuver) on Lincoln Beach Road, successfully stopping his vehicle and taking him into custody.

Juvenile Found in Trailer

Authorities say Madden had been hiding a runaway juvenile in a trailer in Utah County. The juvenile was listed as missing in the National Crime Information Center and was reported as a runaway from California.

Meanwhile, as deputies arrested Madden, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office received a court order from California requiring the surrender of any firearms, ammunition, and body armor in his possession.

Search Warrant Uncovers Weapons and Drugs

Executing a search warrant at Madden’s residence, authorities discovered marijuana, drug paraphernalia (including bongs, pipes, and a grinder), as well as an assortment of weapons. Among the items recovered were green-tipped ammunition, shotgun shells, long-edged fixed-blade knives, and an AR-15 magazine.

Madden was booked into the Utah County Jail, where he remains in custody on multiple charges.
