Utah – A 54-year-old man from St. George tragically lost his life after a trench he was working in collapsed in his backyard.
The incident occurred at a home on Grand Heights Drive around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving a call from the man’s wife, who had grown concerned when she hadn’t seen her husband for nearly an hour.

She went outside to check on him and discovered the trench had collapsed, trapping him underneath. Fire crews from St. George, along with police officers and emergency medical technicians, responded immediately to the scene.
Chief Robert Stoker
of the St. George Fire Department reported that the victim was found buried under approximately 2.5 feet of dirt. Efforts to dig him out were complicated by the presence of natural gas lines in the area. Enbridge Gas workers were called to the site as a precaution, in case any issues arose with the gas lines during the rescue operation.
At this time, the man’s name has not been released, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
