Details Emerge in SLCPD Officer-Involved Incident, Suspect Identified
The Salt Lake City Police Department has confirmed that the suspect involved in a critical officer-involved incident (OICI) has died. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Chandler Grillone, was critically injured during a confrontation with an officer early on January 9.
According to SLCPD, the incident began around 1:41 a.m. when an officer initiated a traffic stop near 375 South and 765 West. While the officer was conducting the stop, Grillone allegedly approached the officer, despite not being involved in the traffic stop.
The officer gave Grillone several commands, but Grillone allegedly advanced while holding a weapon and reportedly attacked the officer. During the altercation, the officer fired at least one shot, critically injuring Grillone.

Initially, it was reported that no other individuals were injured, but SLCPD later revealed that the officer had been wounded by a sharp-edged object. The officer’s injury is non-life-threatening.
Grillone was transported to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The weapon he allegedly wielded has not been confirmed by authorities.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and SLCPD has not released further details at this time. This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
