Potato Recall at Dierbergs: Undeclared Wheat Poses Allergy Risk
Salt Lake City – Best Friends Animal Society is working to ensure the safety of pets displaced by the ongoing wildfires in California by transferring animals from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City.
On January 10, the Salt Lake City Best Friends center is scheduled to receive 60 cats and 14 dogs from the organization’s sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. The animals are being relocated from the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center and a local shelter in Los Angeles, where space is urgently needed for pets being brought in due to the fires.
Earlier this week, 17 pets were moved from Pasadena Humane, a Los Angeles County shelter, to the Kanab sanctuary to make room for evacuees’ pets. As families flee the wildfires, many have turned to Pasadena Humane for temporary shelter for their animals, and Best Friends Animal Society is helping to relieve the pressure by taking in as many as possible.

“By transferring these pets, Best Friends is creating more space for Pasadena-area residents to safely board their animals during the crisis,” the nonprofit explained.
Although the Los Angeles Best Friends center has not yet been ordered to evacuate, the facility remains on high alert and is operating with a minimal staff. The center is closed to the public as part of its precautionary measures.
While the animals in Utah will be safe from the fires, Best Friends is urging local residents to support their efforts. The nonprofit encourages Utahns to foster or adopt the animals to help lighten the load. In addition, the community can assist by purchasing pet supplies through the organization’s Amazon Wishlist or by contributing to the emergency response fund.
This transfer of animals highlights the ongoing efforts of Best Friends Animal Society to provide care and shelter to pets affected by the devastation of the wildfires.
