UDOT Celebrates $1 Billion in Completed Projects as 2024 Ends

Utah  – The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is celebrating significant progress as it nears the completion of roughly $1 billion in construction projects ahead of 2025. According to John Gleason, UDOT’s Director of Public Relations, these projects are critical to accommodating Utah’s rapid growth.

“As we continue to see all of the growth that we’re experiencing here in Utah, it’s important to make sure that people can get to where they’re going safely and with as much convenience as possible,” Gleason said.

Key Achievements in 2024

One of the most notable accomplishments is the completion of the first phase of the West Davis Highway. This new freeway, which connects communities from West Point to Farmington to Interstate 15, represents nearly a decade of planning and construction with a price tag of approximately $750 million.

UDOT also focused on upgrading and replacing nearly 100 bridges across the state, with a particular emphasis on structures impacted by harsh winters.

“The last couple of winters had been really hard on several of the bridges, especially out by the airport,” Gleason explained. “There was a big concentration of them here in Salt Lake County.”

Looking Ahead to 2025

As UDOT shifts its focus to 2025, the agency is gearing up for its next major initiative: creating a statewide trail network. This ambitious project aims to connect dozens of trails, forming an integrated system similar to the interstate highway network.

“It’s going to be an entire network, kind of like how the interstate system works right now,” Gleason said. “And so if [people] want to walk, bike, or use transit, we’re improving all of those connections.”

The Utah Trail Network

The Utah Trail Network has been in development for several years, incorporating feedback from public workshops and other community engagement efforts. Two additional workshops are scheduled in the coming months, providing opportunities for residents to share their thoughts on the project.

UDOT remains committed to enhancing transportation options for all Utahns, ensuring safety, efficiency, and accessibility as the state continues to grow.
