84-Year-Old Critically Injured in Salt Lake City Hit-and-Run; Suspect Arrested
Salt Lake City – An 84-year-old man is in critical condition following a hit-and-run incident in Salt Lake City’s Ballpark neighborhood. The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) has arrested 49-year-old Erik Conner in connection with the crash, which occurred early Tuesday morning.
According to SLCPD, the incident happened around 4:55 a.m. on January 7 near 1700 South State Street. Emergency services responded to reports of a collision, where officers discovered that the driver of a Ford F-350 had struck the elderly man and fled the scene without stopping, as required by law. While the victim’s injuries were initially believed to be non-life-threatening, his condition was later downgraded to critical by hospital staff.

Investigators quickly identified a suspect and located the truck believed to have been involved in the crash not far from the scene. SLCPD stated that Conner returned to retrieve his truck but left again without engaging with officers, even as patrol cars were visibly present with their emergency lights activated.
The case advanced when Conner, accompanied by his attorney, contacted authorities to provide a statement. Following an interview with detectives, Conner was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of felony hit-and-run.
SLCPD later located the vehicle associated with the crash at a hotel near the University of Utah. Authorities emphasized that all charges are allegations, and Conner is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
