AJ Heap is a stellar midfielder/striker for the Weber High Soccer team. Over her high school career, she has amounted 7 goals, 6 assists, but in this season alone she has already had 4 goals, 2 assists and 5 steals, with more to come.
Soccer has been a huge part of her life, and she has played since she was 4 years old. This makes the announcement of her commitment to play soccer for the Air Force Academy even more exciting because she gets to continue playing the sport she loves. She has played on multiple club teams, including an independent league and Avalanche ECNL, where she currently plays. She will be finishing her time in club with one last season at Avalanche.
Heap has spent all 4 years of high school playing on the Weber High Soccer team. She’s an exemplary player and teammate who has been essential in Weber’s overall success so far this season. Heap was chosen as player of the game against Granger, with an incredible 2 assists and 2 goals. She is most excited to play in the matchups against Layton and Ogden.
This is because of the opportunity to be able to face up against old teammates in a challenging environment that is guaranteed to be a good matchup. When asked about the season so far, she stated, “We’ve done very well so far compared to the past, but I feel like our best games are in the future.” Heap showed excitement for the state tournament and their opportunity to fight no matter how the rest of the season goes. Weber Soccer has a 6-5 record currently after a couple devastating, but toughly fought matches against Syracuse and Davis, and several more games left in the season.
But in this season alone she has already had 4 goals, 2 assists and 5 steals, with more to come.
Heap was incredibly excited to finally announce her commitment to the Air Force Academy this February after a long commitment process. She decided to go this route because of her love for the soccer program and for the incredible coaches at the Air Force, as well as the opportunities it affords her both in college and later on. She’s also excited for the many opportunities it gives to serve others. She is looking to pursue a degree in meteorology and is hoping to work at NASA after she completes her four years at the Air Force Academy.
When she was asked about tips to succeed in committing to a college sport Heap responded, “Don’t compare your journey to other people, everybody’s is different, and you just need to believe in yourself and work harder than you think you have to.” Heap’s dedication to focusing on herself and her own improvement is admirable, and she is only going up from here.
