WEBER COUNTY, Utah — A 17-year-old boy has tragically died after falling into the Weber River on Saturday evening, according to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities responded to a reported drowning around 5:30 p.m. on May 3 near 2200 West and 1200 South in Marriott-Slaterville. Lt. Sean Endsley with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the teenager had been in the water for approximately 90 minutes before being located.
The incident occurred when a group of boys were playing airsoft along the river. Two of the boys entered the water, and one of them failed to resurface. Rescue crews found the boy around 7 p.m. and quickly transported him to Primary Children’s Hospital. His condition was not updated later that evening.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials have not released additional details at this time. The identity of the boy has not been made public.
This tragedy serves as a reminder to stay cautious near bodies of water, especially in fast-moving rivers.
Keelee McCain is a junior at Weber High School. This is her second year on staff, this year as Assistant to the Chief. She does have a life (probably) but she can't think of anything to write in here, so she's probably just going to ramble now. She has an orange cat who she likes better than any human. If you see her being quiet or not sitting on top of a desk, there is something very wrong. In her free time she enjoys harassing her favorite teachers and sleeping. Her life plans include making it through high school and leaving. Happy lifeing.
