A suspect was taken into custody following an officer-involved shooting Saturday evening near the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, officials confirmed. Authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The incident unfolded around 8 p.m. on May 3 near the entrance to the Lone Rock Beach Campground off Highway 89. According to the National Park Service, law enforcement rangers responded after receiving reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area.
As rangers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly rammed a patrol car, prompting officers to open fire, officials said in a statement released Sunday.
The suspect, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to a hospital in Arizona for treatment before being released into custody. No serious injuries were reported among the responding rangers.
Prior to the confrontation, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office had issued an alert for a potentially dangerous individual, prompting increased law enforcement activity in the area.
A multi-agency investigation is now underway, involving the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the National Park Service, and the FBI.
Authorities have not released the identity of the suspect, and no additional details are currently available.
