
IVINS, Utah — Professional women’s golf made a long-awaited return to Utah on Thursday as the first round of the inaugural Black Desert Championship got underway at the Black Desert Resort. This marks the first LPGA Tour event held in the state in 60 years, bringing excitement and attention to Southern Utah.
The championship, hosted at the newly completed Black Desert Resort in Ivins, features dozens of top LPGA Tour players competing in a multi-day tournament set against the striking red rock backdrop. The event has drawn attention from fans, media, and golf enthusiasts across the region, as it puts Utah back on the map for professional women’s golf.
ABC4’s Sarah Murphy caught up with Patrick Manning, Managing Partner at Black Desert Resort, who discussed the significance of the tournament and what it means for the region. Manning shared that hosting an LPGA Tour event has been a major goal and milestone for the resort and the broader Utah golf community.
“It’s incredibly meaningful to bring this level of golf back to Utah,” said Manning. “Not only is it an opportunity to showcase world-class athletes, but it also allows us to highlight everything Southern Utah has to offer, from our landscapes to our hospitality.”
Manning also noted that the Black Desert Resort is now fully operational and ready to support major sporting events and guests from around the world.
As Round 2 approaches on Friday, spectators can expect more competitive play and a chance to see some of the game’s top talents up close. The tournament continues through the weekend, offering fans a rare opportunity to experience LPGA action in Utah.
