West Jordan Man Stabs Brother on Christmas Day, Accused of Attempted Murder
West Jordan – A West Jordan man has been charged with attempted murder following a violent Christmas Day attack on his brother, allegedly over accusations of “snitching.”
Court documents detail that Javier Rafael Pedregon-Magana and his brother were celebrating Christmas with family before leaving together to return home. Later that night, a family member received a call from the victim, who claimed that his brother had stabbed him, abandoned him, and stolen his car.
A witness reported seeing the victim jump out of a black sedan and flee on foot along the shoulder of I-15. The sedan then reportedly sped toward the victim in an attempt to run him over, but he managed to leap over a concrete barrier to safety. The car then sped off south on I-15.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene, finding the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds and lacerations. Disoriented and struggling to stay conscious, he was rushed to a local hospital.
The following day, police were alerted that Pedregon-Magana had been seen circling the hospital in the victim’s car. When troopers arrived, Pedregon-Magana attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended after being pinned between two Utah Highway Patrol vehicles.

Pedregon-Magana later told officers that a “hit” had been placed on his brother, who was suspected of “snitching.” He claimed that he was ordered to kill his brother to clear his name. Pedregon-Magana further explained that while driving with his brother, another man—who he said was hiding in the trunk—attacked the victim. When the victim fled the vehicle, Pedregon-Magana admitted to attempting to run him over but missed.
Pedregon-Magana has been charged with one count of first-degree felony attempted murder and one count of third-degree felony failure to respond to an officer’s signal to stop.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill commended the witness who reported the crime, ensuring that law enforcement could intervene. “It is not only the obligation of law enforcement to help stop crime, but it is also the responsibility of everyone in our community,” said Gill.
As the case progresses, it is important to note that these charges are allegations only, and all arrested individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
