SALT LAKE CITY — Joe Lake, a founding force behind Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals), has died at the age of 82, the organization announced.
Lake was instrumental in establishing CMN Hospitals in 1983 alongside Marie Osmond, John Schneider, and Mick Shannon. Headquartered in Salt Lake City, the nonprofit has become a national leader in raising funds for pediatric healthcare. Lake’s vision was to unite individuals, communities, and corporate partners to rally behind local children’s hospitals.
Since its inception, the organization has generated more than $9 billion in support of 170 children’s hospitals across North America.
Lake’s innovative spirit helped shape the organization’s foundation. He launched the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon, a nationally televised event that spotlighted stories from hospitals and connected donors across the country in support of the cause.
Following the launch of CMN Hospitals, Lake dedicated much of his time to expanding its reach, spending more than 300 days per year on the road. He built relationships with hospitals and supporters throughout the United States and Canada, playing a vital role in the nonprofit’s growth and success.
“Joe’s legacy is extraordinary,” said Marie Osmond. “He revolutionized charitable giving, creating a model that continues to benefit children’s healthcare today. Joe was a dear friend, and his passion still drives our mission forward. We honor his memory by continuing the work he loved so much.”
Aimee J. Daily, Ph.D., President and CEO of CMN Hospitals, also expressed her condolences. “We are deeply saddened by Joe’s passing. His dedication to improving children’s health has had a profound impact on our organization and the countless families we serve. Joe’s visionary leadership and generous heart will not be forgotten.”
Those wishing to honor Joe Lake’s legacy are encouraged to make a donation to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in his memory .
