SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — A 50-year-old man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being convicted of multiple child sex abuse charges, including child rape, according to the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office.
The sentencing follows a lengthy investigation that began in January 2024, when the mother of several young girls reported to Taylorsville Police that a relative had sexually abused three of her minor daughters over a span of nearly four years — from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2021.
Following the report, the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office charged the man on March 1, 2024, with a total of 38 felony counts. These included 24 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, all first-degree felonies.
After a trial in Third District Court, a jury found the man guilty on January 29, 2025, of 38 charges. These included:
-
Four counts of rape of a child (first-degree felony)
-
Four counts of sodomy upon a child (first-degree felony)
-
24 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child (first-degree felony)
-
Two counts of forcible sodomy (first-degree felony)
-
Four counts of forcible sexual abuse (second-degree felony)
The judge handed down the sentence on March 4, 2025. The man received 25 years to life for each of the three counts of child rape — one for each victim. These sentences will run consecutively, amounting to a total of 75 years to life in prison. He will serve his sentence at the Utah State Correctional Facility.
During the sentencing hearing, one of the young survivors stood before the court to deliver a powerful statement. She told the judge she was speaking on behalf of her sisters and declared she was no longer afraid.
District Attorney Sim Gill praised the bravery of the victims and acknowledged the tireless work of his office and law enforcement.
“These survivors showed incredible courage in testifying at trial,” Gill said. “We also commend our prosecution team, social workers, and the Taylorsville Police Department for their dedication and thorough investigation, which brought this predator to justice.”
Authorities confirmed that the man lived with the victims’ family in two homes in Salt Lake County during the time the abuse occurred.
