OGDEN, Utah — A police officer was injured and a suspect killed during an early morning shootout on Friday, April 4, in West Haven. The incident occurred as law enforcement attempted to apprehend a man linked to a recent robbery.
According to the Ogden Police Department, members of the Ogden Metro Gang Task Force were attempting to arrest a suspect involved in an aggravated robbery that occurred on April 1. Around 2 a.m., officers located the suspect at a local motel, but the situation quickly escalated.
As officers approached, the suspect reportedly tried to escape on foot. During the short pursuit, he allegedly drew a firearm and exchanged gunfire with two officers.
One officer was struck in the leg and sustained what authorities described as a “significant but non-life-threatening” injury. They were transported to the hospital, treated, and later released.
The suspect, identified only as a known white supremacist gang member with a lengthy criminal record, was critically wounded in the exchange. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Weber County Attorney’s Officer Involved Critical Incident Team is leading an independent investigation into the shooting.
Ogden Police Chief Jake Sube issued a statement urging the public to be patient as the inquiry unfolds.
“We recognize the seriousness of this incident and are committed to a thorough and transparent investigation,” Sube said. “Additional details will be shared when appropriate.”
As is standard protocol in such cases, the two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave during the investigation — a step taken to preserve the integrity of the review and provide support to the officers involved.
More information will be released as it becomes available.
